Pictures like the above are very special. They capture what most pictures don’t: the dynamic passage of time.
As I look at photography and examine the beauty in images, I must never forget that they are really static vignettes in a forward motion of time.
Like the righteous scholar who commented when he stood on a horizontal escalator, “This is like life. You think you’re standing still but you are really moving to your ajal (meeting with Allah).”
Let us never let the dunya deceive us into thinking it is our permanent abode. As we read the lines of creation, let us always remember that the purpose of the form is to understand a meaning.
